His Strength is Perfect and His Grace Sufficient

We have no power from God unless we live in the persuasion that we have none of our own – John Owen

What we’ve been taught all our lives—always be strong, never show weakness, focus and go hard after success until you find it—runs contrary to how God would have us live. No one wants to face their own weaknesses (or utter powerlessness), let alone admit them to someone else. The Bible tells us that God’s strength is made perfect in [our] weakness. When we come to the place where we let go and allow God to take control, His power is revealed and demonstrated in ways we could never imagine or accomplish on our own.

Remember, God will not share His glory so we must remain aware of and self-correct when we’re operating out of our own strength (power, intellect, wisdom and influence) rather than leaning on God. Proverbs 3:5-6 admonishes us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct your paths.” Therefore, we must constantly check our motives.

I know it’s sometimes difficult to distinguish between when we’re moving by His power versus our own. And let me be clear, there’s nothing wrong with having ambitions and wanting to succeed in life as long as we first learn to ask God to realign our desires so they match His, and seek His guidance. This is what surrendering to Christ looks like. And once we surrender, we’ll find the pathway clear for God to move in a manner that suits His purposes, that brings Him glory through our lives—not the other way around.

His strength is only made perfect [comes to fruition] when we acknowledge we have no power of our own. And that alone is freeing to the mind and soul.

Love You All to Life!!
