Not Easily Offended

I have to admit that I sometimes have problems managing myself (my tongue especially) when someone tries to shame me or is offensive, whether or not it’s done intentionally. I catch feelings over being treated “less than” and I have a way of letting people know I am not the one. Yes…I can take it to one hundred real quick (God help me 🤦🏽‍♀️).

I can’t tell you how often I’ve said, “How dare they treat me that way” or “Do they know who I am?” And God has had to remind and ask me, “Do you know whose you are?” For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify [Me] in your body and in your spirit, which are [Mine].  (1 Cor 6:20)

I forget that Jesus found himself in this very place many times and I can certainly glean some lessons in humility. The prophet Isaiah reminds us, “He [Jesus] was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth.”

If Jesus can hold His tongue under life-threatening circumstances, then who am I…who are we to immediately go on the defense when others offend us? Proverbs 26:32 admonishes, “He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.” Jesus is the perfect example of how we should manage ourselves.

Lord, help us to be an example of Your grace and humility in action. Not needing to prove anything except Your love. Not easily offended or given to quarrels, but gentle to all.

Love You All to Life!!
