Make Space and He Will Fill It
(Inspiration and excerpts from Be Still devotional writing by Faith Woodall)
I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the Lord. With my whole being, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God. Psalms 84:2 NLT
When doubts filled my mind, Your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer. Psalms 94:19 NLT
I don’t know about you but there are times when I allow the busyness of life (finances, projects, work, and even catching up with friends) to get in the way of way of my personal time with God. What an awful feeling when I think about how I spent my day or week, perhaps just talking to God in passing, but can easily find the time when I’m in need.
I’m learning (and sometimes the hard way) that there is “nothing” else worth missing God for. That issue that needed to be resolved, that project that just couldn’t wait, the distractions I allowed to take me off course—none of it amounted to much and only caused me more frustration in the end.
“When we are intentional with our time and make space for God in our day, He draws near to us, and His presence speaks to our hearts.”
Understand that “engaging with His presence should be a JOY, not a check off the to-do list. Just as we would enjoy talking with a close friend over a cup of coffee, we should also enjoy sitting at the feet of Jesus, reading in His Word, and staying in His presence.”
You all remember Mary, Martha’s sister? It’s sitting at the feet of Jesus/ spending time in His
presence that we find true peace and contentment— and without missing a beat in other areas. When we attend our ear to God’s business and put our busyness aside, He promises to attend to ours, and in a way that surpasses our efforts and understanding.
Prayer: “God, I relinquish my time and give You SPACE to speak to me:
S – [I invite You to] Search my heart
P – [I want to] Pursue Your presence
A – [help me to] stay Attentive
C – Clear my mind
E – [that I may] Enjoy my time”
