Faith Isn’t Foolish, It’s Genius
(Excerpts and inspiration from Intentional devotional writing by Pastor Darren DeLoach)
“Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.” Hebrews 11:1 NLT
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Romans 12:2 NIV
“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,” 1 Peter 3:15 NIV
I’m sure you’ve heard some say that having faith (in God through life’s circumstances, for seemingly unattainable dreams and outcomes, miraculous healing, etc.) is wishful thinking, foolish, ignores facts and serves only weak-minded non-critical thinkers. Harsh words indeed!
In fact, I submit to you that living by faith requires us to navigate life’s challenges with prayer, wisdom, discernment and patience. The Bible has many examples of women and men full of faith (Ruth, Naomi, David, Daniel and Paul—just to name a few) who stood up and engaged their critical thinking skills as part of their faith walk in Christ.
As one writer puts it, “Faith, then, isn’t about rejecting [or abandoning] the intellect but about submitting it to the one who made it.” Now that’s genius!
In doing this we “allow God’s truth [rather than the world’s culture] to shape our perspectives, priorities, and decisions.” The process to transform and renew our minds requires us to “actively engage with the world’s ideas critically and faithfully, holding every thought, every belief, and every cultural trend up to the light of Scripture.”
So, the next time you are tempted to fall into the enemy’s trap that faith is foolish, you can readily declare instead that Faith is Genius!
Prayer: Father, I submit everything to You…my heart, mind, body and soul. Help me to be bold and courageous in my faith, nothing wavering that others may be impacted and won by Your genius.
I Can Because He Is!
