To the Glory of God

“Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [greatest] reward. It is the Lord Christ whom you [actually] serve.”  Colossians‬ ‭3:23-24‬ ‭AMP‬‬

We’ve heard so many times that our lives and all that we do should give glory to God. But do we really put this into practice? Is Jesus the Lord of our lives and are we submitted to Him in everything, including our careers and relationships? CeCe Winans, one of my favorite gospel artists of all time brings me to tears each time I listen to her “In His Presence” CD. Perhaps it reminds me of where I’ve fallen short, and yet continue to experience God’s unwavering love, grace, and mercy towards me.

I admit that oftentimes when I was working my full-time job, God had become more peripheral than integral. It’s hard for me to even say this but honestly, I came to realize that my focus and motivation for work became more about achieving an end and reaping benefits rather than what it meant to keep Christ front and center, remaining fully committed, submitted, and surrendered to Him. And I know this because of the effort and intensity I spent in the workplace versus in His presence; the effort and intensity I spent worrying and praying about my job—my financial future—and what I needed to do to maintain it; the gifts He poured into my life for the benefit of the Kingdom that I repurposed or focused for work. 🧐

God is grieved when we set Him aside (intentionally or unintentionally) for things He intended as added blessings in our lives, whether it is our jobs, relationships or material goods.

As we continue Leaning Into Discipleship this year, let’s take an inventory of our lives, and ensure we keep Jesus front and center, stay connected and “in His presence” so that He maintains His rightful place. And in this my friends, our Lord will be well-pleased.

Love You All to Life!!
