This Is Only a Test
(Inspired by 21 Days of Powerful Breakthrough by Kemberley Washington)
“Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.” James 1:2-4 MSG
We’ve all heard the television and radio notifications that start with a loud and long beep, followed by the words “This is a test of the emergency broadcast system”. And after the test is completed successfully the programming continues as normal.
This testing is similar to what we experience as we wade through this journey called life. Our trials and tribulations represent God allowing tests and challenges to come our way to see how we will respond.
Will we pout and stomp, complain and cry, fold our arms and run away? Or will we stand in the knowledge that God is our fortress and deliverer and resolve to be unmoved? Will we stand the test and allow God to elevate us to another level of faith?
I’ve certainly failed the test of my emergency system more times than I’d like to admit. And when I look back over how I responded, I realize God was walking alongside me all along—that this was only a test and I had everything I needed to be victorious.
We can all pass the test by keeping our eyes fixed on God. Remember the disciple Peter who walked on water while looking at Jesus, and began to sink only after turning his attention toward the churning waves beneath his feet?
Prayer: God help me to keep my eyes off life’s winds and waves that can cause me to stumble and go off course. Instead, help me to keep my gaze on You. I hold to Your promise that in doing so, I will not fall.
I Can Because God Is!
Love You All to Life!!
