Refreshment for My Soul

(Inspiration and excerpts from Be Still devotional writing by Faith Woodall)

“As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before Him?”  ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭42‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water.”  Psalms‬ ‭63‬:‭1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Jesus answered and said to her, whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

‭‭John‬ ‭4‬:‭13-14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I don’t know about you but sometimes I wake up parched and thirsty as though I had been in the heat or doing some strenuous exercise. In these cases, nothing but pure water will suffice.  Similar to the natural, I sometimes feel lifeless and fatigue when I’m not properly nourished in the Word of God. Nothing seems to work….I feel sluggish, helpless and without purpose.

If we fail to stay nourished or become malnourished, we crack under every pressure and hardship life brings our way. We become hopeless and helpless and drown in our own sorrows. As children of God, we don’t have to go down like that…that doesn’t have to be our life’s story.

On the contrary as Woodall puts it, “During these moments, I need to push my own restart button to refresh my soul and my thinking. Releasing praise from my mouth begins to restart my attitude. Worship and lifting up my hands will restart my hope and refocus it on the Lord, and the Word of God, full of truth, will restart and refresh us when we are dragging or ready to quit.”

“In the Word of God, we find the kind of refreshment that will satisfy our souls, but we must go back and apply the first part of this verse – “God, You are my God; Early I will seek You.” We must seek Him. We seek Him because we are in need of the only kind of refreshment that truly satisfies us.”

Prayer: Lord, help me to lift my eyes to You and drink from the well that never runs dry. Living water you supply that refreshes my parched soul. And help me to stay rooted and grounded in Your Word daily—before I begin to tackle my day. Help me to remember that I Can do..I Can endure..I Can thrive in All things because You give me strength. Lord, I Can Because You Are.

Love You All to Life! ❤️
