Be Still and Know
(Inspiration and excerpts from Be Still devotional writing by Pastor Kyle Torrence)
“The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” Exodus 14:14 NLT
“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” Psalms 46:10 NLT
We’ve talked before about how practice makes perfect. And we’ve been learning through our latest sermon series that prayer is a practice, processand product
Pastor Torrence puts it this way:
- Pray
- Trust
- Be Still
- Repeat
Hmmm…I’m still working on the Trust and Be Still parts. Actually, I’m working on all of it!! It is truly an ongoing process in which we must remain actively engaged. Psalms 55:17 admonishes us, “Evening and morning and at noon I will pray and cry aloud and He will hear my voice.” And I’ll add that He will answer your cry. Hallelujah!!

We also understand the importance of not leaning on our own understanding—that God delights in our weakness because His strength is then made perfect.
I gotta say that the Be Still part is where I struggle most. While learning to Be Still is a natural byproduct of Trust I’ve got to learn to take my hands and mind off and allow God space to do what only He can.
The Repeat step seems simple enough but something I forget just that fast when new challenges come my way. Is it just me?
I can’t make that make sense.
I’m reminded of a gospel song by Naomi Raines entitled Be Still My Soul. It is in that Be Still and Know part that we receive the peace of God, recognizing that He Is In Control!!
Prayer: “Father God help us to be still when we are up against adversity. Help us to be still when we can’t see Your plan. We surrender to Your will for our situations and our lives. Amen.”
Love You All to Life!
