The first Black Disney animator was Floyd Norman, who was hired by Walt Disney in 1956 as an assistant animator and worked on films like Sleeping Beauty and The Jungle Book. Norman was the first African-American artist hired by the company and was later recognized as a Disney Legend. His career has spanned decades, working on both Disney and Pixar films and inspiring other Black animators.
