Forgiveness, An Inside Job
(Adapted from Shannon McCoy’s Conquering a Critical Spirit devotional)
The choice to forgive, to let go of hurts that keep you bitter and stuck, isn’t a one-time decision; it’s something you have to choose again and again. Forgiveness is a journey, but each step is worth it for the peace and joy it restores.
You’ve heard many times, that forgiveness is not only for the person that has offended you but more-so for yourself—it’s about freeing yourself from the bitterness and resentment that over time hardens your heart and causes you to develop a critical spirit.
Are you holding on to something today that closes you off from the freedom and peace that forgiveness brings? Let it go, lay it down and allow God’s healing grace to remove all traces of unforgiveness. The Bible admonishes in Ephesians 4:31-32:
“Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
Then and only then can you walk in the freedom of God’s love, leaving behind the bitterness and resentment that weigh you down. I don’t know about you but I can certainly stand to lose more “weights”. Forgiveness is an inside job, so let’s walk it out!
Love You All to Life!
